Coaches

Vernon Baseball is looking forward to another successful season of baseball. We would just like to start out by saying thank you to all of you for signing up as coaches and assistants. We would also like to welcome back the returning coaches and assistant from last year. All of our coaches displayed strong, knowledgeable and positive leadership throughout the season. Vernon was very well represented at all levels of baseball. It is best known for its sportsmanship and is welcome by all of the host tournament cities.

One of Vernon Baseball's goals is to begin to lay the groundwork for consistent coaching within our organization as related to how and what we teach our young athlete's to best enhance their development as ball players within a fun, competitive environment. We have outlined the role of Coach and put together a "Coaching Package" that will help in kicking off the season successfully. In addition to the coaching package, we have also created a "Standard Practice Plan" for the 7U and 9U levels. This will give everyone the information needed to run a practice and demonstrate the proper techniques of baseball set out by BC Baseball.

Also included in the Coaching Package are our Codes of Conduct for all of our Coaches, Parents and Players. Be sure to review each of these prior to the season and include a brief review with your players and parents during your first team meeting. Fair play and creating a positive environment for our kids to learn and grow is our most important role as leaders.

Conflict Resolution

In every sport kids are coached by people (parents) that have learned from someone else. This is how great ideas are passed down to our youth. We encourage you to continue these same ways but with one thought, "Why". Ask yourself, "Are there other ways to create a better outcome." Take the time to learn from others. Accept new ideas and use them in a way that works for you. Get training from online sources. Take courses offered by Vernon Baseball. If we all work together there will be no limit to what we can achieve.

Coaches Training

BC Baseball is in process of revamping the coaching training across the province. As new information is released, we will update this website with relevant information and links.

Vernon Baseball Policy is that every coach receive the Initiation Course by the time they return to coach a second year. With all the changes, we’re unsure right now of what course this will end up being. VBA will reimburse coaches for approved training upon request PRIOR TO attending.

All coaches must have the required training outlined by BC Baseball to coach or manage in a zone, summer league, or provincial tournament. Vernon Baseball will reimburse all course fees, if training is approved in advance. NCCP certification is being phased out of being the recognized levels within BC Baseball, however, they are still available if you wish to maintain your NCCP status. Please look online at www.baseball.bc.ca and click on the Coaches Tab for further information about training being offered and officially recognized.

Vernon Baseball is currently looking for coaches for the Spring 2018 baseball season; Coaches please e-mail vicepresident@vernonbaseball.com or contact the Division Director if you are interested.
